after I reset defaults I installed the software.
upon reboot I have a warning that says:
all electronic chart data and features, from memory or third party digital
media, are an aid to navigation designed to facilitate the use of authorized
government chart, not to replace them.
This is new, anyone else get this new message?

When I press exit, the screen is in down imaging and black.
The simulation is not running, (unit hooked up in the house)
I do not have all 7 tabs in the menu either, the nav and chart tabs are missing.
In the setup tab under select readouts, I have 3 choices to choose off, depth,
voltage. The only one that can be seen on screen is the voltage.
I have pictures if someone wants to see them.
When I reinstall 5.450 the unit works properly.
I guess I won't be using the new software. :(
I downloaded from humminbird and this site and have the same problems.

Anyone else have problems like this?

Installed on the 1197 and did not get any abnormal indications from what I could see.  The waypoint management may take a little figuring out.  My satellite weather still works normal, and the GPS maps came up.  Can't tell much more sitting in the driveway.  I do have the Nav database version of the 1197 as a reference.  Didn't check the menu tabs.  Will look next time out.

I installed the update on my 1197 and all went well.
I didn't notice any additional messages.
I may get out tomorrow to test it on the water.

turn it off or unplug it. then see if it will come back on.The 997 if you have the cables you can use jollys bootstrap method
to fix it if you do not have the cables or have anyone close that does you will need to ship it to HB support. Sorry Gary

Put out a distress call for your area someone can or should be able to help you
you will need to bootstrap it the cable depends on your pc  you will need to
Connect the unit to your PC using the ASPC2 cable (and the USB/ Serial adapter if you don't have a serial port at your PC). You have to use the NMEA com port on the rear side of your unit
I would be glad to help you if you where closer.  Gary

I am not sure but if you talk real sweet to one of the HB customer support girls an get a RA
number put it in a box however you ship they will pay the same coming back an send a nice note
with the 997 an it probably won't be much. Them HB people are real good people to do business
with. PS do not send it back in the box it came with because they will ship it back in a different
box.Hope this helps Gary

Bassburner,

If you cant sweet talk the girls with Humminbird, just let me know.  ;)  At the very worst you can send it to me and I will take care of it for you.  I am down in Beaufort, and standard UPS is 1 day here and 1 day back.

Take a look at the member map, there are several forum members up in your area and they may have the ASPC2 cable.  Getting your unit back using the bootstrap mode is pretty easy.  Just follow the directions.

Good Luck and let me know if I can help.

Thanks,

Thanks! I'm not sure what all that bootstrap thing is your talking about is but, is that all what Humminbird is going to do? If they are going to do the same thing can't I just send it to you. That will be way faster. =) It is hard to live with out my 997. Of coarse I would take care of you.

Like Robt. said the bootstrap is fairly simple producure if you have the cable to hook it up
you have 12 members or more real close to where you live. I would call them or take Robt.
up on his offer. The new units out now you cannot use the bootstrap to bring them back
to life you aft to send them back to HB.   Gary

Ok I just downloaded the PC software. I'm going to try to tackle this myself. I'll need some help from you though. I will buy the HB connection kit. Do you have a link to where I can get a good power supply? I would like to get it all ordered tonight.

I just updated my 997. it appears that the side/down colors have issues. the start up screen is now black, even after restore defaults. and the amber colors are gone with black in there place. I sure hope this is not yet another soft update with issues. :'( :'(

Did you install it in house or on your boat?
If you have it in house, as you power it up press menu. If its in normal mode you won't have any colors. You can change it to sim and get the screen back to normal.

It was done in the boat. and it was done as stated. and reverting back to 5.450 does not fix the problem. I would not advise this update at this time. I will be calling CS .

When I did my update I had a problem with having a black SI and DI screen. I turned the unit off and when I turned it back on all it said was loading.I'm in the process of getting it taken care of. I have never had any issues with any other updates from Humminbird. Sometimes you just get a bad one. I could tell you horror stories of Lowrance updates I have ran into. Scare to death to update my HDS's. I have fried too many HDS units. This is the first problem ever with my 997. I wouldn't be scared to do it again.

Trytofish I am trying to understand what happened to your update. You would think if there was something wrong
with the update that it would affect all the units that install it obviously that is not the case here. I know when updating a
head unit and not- restoring defaults or have - low voltage  - connection issues - interlink or Eiternet connections can and
will do strange things.I would like to know what HB CS says or doe's to fix your issue. Gary

no voltage issues boat is in the garage with the 3 bank charger plugged in. and was on the water working fine over the weekend. what confuses me is reverting back to past update did not restore it to where it was before current update. I will keep you posted. I have several bird units and have been doing updates for years. first real issue for me.
Interlink was/is connected. I will try disconnecting it.

Please disregard my concerns. I have been defeated by a switch. My 997 is on the console and shares a transducer on the bow. the ts-2 was in the wrong position. all seems to be working well now. too many gadgets too little time.

Are you suing HumminbirdPC to try and reprogram your unit bassburner15?
Try using an SD card and the bootstrap method (select #9 Programming) and see if that works.  If not, she may e too far gone and you will have to send the unit in.  At this point it sometimes means a memory chip replacement.

He was using Windows Vista and the Humminbird USB/Serial adapter.  Aparently the software that comes with the USB Serial adapter is not Vista compatible.  Support emailed him some files to run that fixed it.

He go the update installed, but now he does not have GPS.

Hmmmm. You know what? To come to think of it,I remember right before I did the update on the lake I lost my GPS and readouts a few times.I had to power on and off a few times to get them back. It happened once in a while.I'm starting to think maybe a bad GPS connection in the cable? On the back of my 997c witch port is the GPS port. I have the GR50. Is there a connector or is does it run right to the puck.I did not install it so I'm not sure.If I know what port it is I can pull that wire a follow it back.
