Ipilot Question
« on: August 14, 2014, 04:56:12 AM »
Hello I am new to the forum and want to start by saying wow so much info in one place. I have searched for my question and I see a lot of people having problems but not the answer Im looking for. I bought my first boat 7 months ago and bought the 1358854 / Minn Kota Terrova 55/US2/i-Pilot - Foot Control - 12V-55lb-45" and a hummingbird 798 ci si hd but went cheap hummingbird 718 on the front using the US2 MKR-US2-8 cable to use the TM transducer. Now I am ready to upgrade the 718 and I am looking at the 859 ci HD combo. My question is will I still be able to use the US2 transducer for the sonar and also what else would I need to use the ipilot with the gps on the 859? Also would I lose the foot control if I used the ipilot/humminbird gps feature? I already have the lakemaster chip. The reason I ask about the transducer is I put a friends 385ci DI combo on the US2 and the depth just shot up and down and was just a blob on the screen. I know the transducer cant do the DI but the compatibility page for US2 shows it will work with that unit so I figured the sonar would work. Im afraid to buy the 859 until I know it will work with it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, you can use the US2 ducer as long as the graph is NOT an DI or SI unit. The US2 ducer is 2D only.

The reason it may not have worked with the 358 is that it is a DI unit, I am sure. It should work fine with a non DI 859 unit.

I don't understand what you are referring to with the i-pilot/humminbird GPS. There is no communication between the i-pilot and the Humminbird unit. To have a Terrova communicate with a Humminbird you need the "Link" feature.

I have a 958 that runs fine on my US2 ducer.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums buslova.

Yes the 859ci HD Combo model uni twill work with the Minn Kota US2 transducer.

The i-Pilot cannot be connected to any Humminbird unit.  The i-Pilot Link can be but that is a different Minn Kota accessory.

I looked at the list off the Minn Kota web site but did not see where it stated that a 385ci DI Combo model unit was usable with the US2 transducer.  There was a “385ci Combo” listed but that is the 2D only sonar version unit.  The DI model units use the DI sonar to help determine water depth when in shallow water.  Hopefully you did not damage his DI unit and it still worked with the DI transducer?

Thanks for the info guys. Greg the 385 still works fine snapped it back on his boat and worked like a charm. I was under the impression from the sales man that I could hook the Ipilot TM to a humminbird unit and it will follow contour lines from the lakemaster sd card out of the box. He said the trolling motor I bought had all I needed just had to get the adaptor to run to the depth finder. Next time I will do my research before I buy because now I see the US2 adapter was probably what he was talking about and he just failed to mention I had to buy the I pilot link to follow the contours. Thanks again for the help guys.
