1198c SI combo…..
« on: August 09, 2014, 10:44:39 AM »
Can I turn my 1198 on while it is on the trailer but not in the water without damage to the transducer? I left the unit on accidentally when I loaded the boat on the trailer after a day on the water and didn`t discover it for about an hour or so. Also, how can I play with the unit in my house to familiarize myself with it? Do I need to purchase all kinds of cables and stuff and how do I download upgrades to the unit? I am using the unit on Lake Michigan for salmon fishing and I admit I know next to nothing about this unit. The tutorials don`t help much unless I can sit at my computer and watch them with the unit in my lap.
Here is a pic of my boat parked in my driveway.

It shouldn't have hurt anything with the unit running out of the water...these xducers don't create the heat that CHIRP xducers are capable of...

You can run the unit in Simulator to learn the unit...

*Power on the unit...
*When the HB splash screen appears...press Menu ...
*Choose Simulator from the options on the popup screen...
____________________

You can build your own AC power supply ....to run the unit in Simulator in the house...

You will need a PC 11 power cord...
http://www.humminbird.com/Products/PC-11/

You will need an AC to DC converter with a 12v output minimum of 1amp (1000mA)...
You will need a 3amp fuse in the + wire...
_______________________

Register your unit on the HB website and then log in to your account...

The latest version of software will be available in your HB account...

*Download this file to your PC ...(your PC will not open the file...just copy the file to your PC)...
*Copy this file to a blank formatted SD Card ...
*Power on the unit in Normal or Simulator ...
*Restore Factory Defaults under the Setup tab ...
*Insert the SD Card into the card slot ...
*Answer Yes to the green popup window that wants to install the software ...
*Answer No to the Red popup window that asks if you want to Abort the install...
*Do not touch the unit until it says "Update Complete" ...
*Remove SD Card ...
*Restore Factory Defaults" under the Setup tab (again)...
