« on: May 28, 2010, 05:30:25 PM »
is that the software that comes on 898 new? mine came with 4.850 before i "updated" to the 4.880 then
i was having the depth issues, so they told me to send it in for service and it came back with this 4.870 software, nothing on the slip says anything other then (updated software)?
did all they do is set it back to the org software?...the only thing is it still runs my Plaitum card fine...

My unit has the 4.880 software and I'm having the shallow water problem.  Please let me know what HB says about 4.870 and where do you find this version.

Some software versions never get released to the public but will be released on new units.  This could certainly be such a case.

I updated my 898 unit with the new 4.9xx software.  I thought that the update fixed the shallow water digital reading problem until I was in a soft bottom.  I experienced the same digital reading problem.  The unit went haywire - graph and digital readout.  Anybody else have this problem?   :-[

I also updated my 788 ci with its new software and the update fixed the shallow water problem even in a soft bottom.  ;D

I updated mine last weekend and have use once....worked fine.  Will work again on fine tuning in the morning.

My update went great and seems to have fixed the problem.

I think that Robert is right here: the 4.870 software was never officially released and must have been an interim software for the Service Center folks to use for those units that came in with shallow water depth reading complaints.

RzorbackAngler, try swapping your 898 and 788 around so they run off of each others transducers to see if the problem stays with the unit or transducer and let us know the results.
