Title: interlink with 998 and 797 problems
Post by: eric3338 on June 09, 2010, 10:27:21 PM
Just bought a inter llink for my 998  and 797.  I first tried to tie them together with the interlink using the gps port. My 998 failed to reprogram the interlink.  The only way the 998 will see the gps is to have it on the y cable.   That will give me faster gps responce I know.   Now the 797 in front won't see the gps or the inter link.  Why is this?   I have it in port 2 and the 998 in port 1.

If I put the 797 on with its own gps 16.  will it see the interlink then?  And if so will the marks from the front of the boat be marked with the less accorate gps  or will the 998 make its own mark using the gps 50?

I seen the other post with all the setups already that is where I seen how to get the faster gps refresh.  Thought this would be allot easier than this.  lol  Please help me  My i-pilot already took a crapper and had to send it in now this. :(

OK, try this.  Hook up the 998 to port 1 on the interlink (no gps conneced) and the 797 to port 2.  Turn on the 998 first and see what happens, then turn on the 797 and see what happens.  See if they will link up.

If they do, power them down and connect the y-cable to the 998 with NMEA side going to the GPS ad the COM going to the interlink in port 1.And the 797 going to port 2.

Now, power on the 998 and see if it links, and then power on the 797 and see if it links.

You could also do it this way, but would have to make sure you always powered on the 998 if using the GR50.  The 797 cannot handle the load required to power the GR50.  Ignore the WeatherSense!

Hope this helps,

Ok  I got it..   Here is what I did.   I switched the 2 units and put the 797 in port 1 and the 998 in 2.   Powered up the 797 with it's  16 gps hooked up.  It has the latest of the 2 downloads and it would reprogram the interface unit.  then powered up the 998 with the 50 gps on it once  the matched up and traded info.  I shut them back down.  switched the units back so the 998 was primary in slot 1.  removed the 16gps from the 797 and powered them back up with 998 first this time .   both loaded and then marked a gps location in my driveway to verify that they was sharing the info properly.  Hope that this might help someone else.  For some reason the 998 didn't want to reprogaram the interface.  Thanks for your  help RGecy.  You put out alot of info on here and you all do a great job. ;D

I have an 998 and 797 that I'm gonna interlink together. My question is, do they both use only one transducer or there own?

They both need to use their own transducer.
