Title: Updating 997's
Post by: Bad Habit on June 21, 2009, 04:00:39 PM
I have previously posted my progress on updating my 997's. They performed flawlessly until updating to the most recent version. Problems included losing GPS signal at random and a message saying "Accessory Interlink Disconnected". Both problems were happening on both units. I went back and reloaded some old software then reloaded the newest version. It did not solve the problem. After firing off an email to Humminbird they said the interlink cable had to be disconnected during the update. No problem. Yesterday I disconnected the cable marked "com" from both units. Again, I reloaded the old software then reloaded the new software. Same problem. Next I unhooked everything but the power wires and reloaded the old then new software again. Still losing the antenna. It recognizes the antenna upon turning the unit on but loses signal at varying intervals. This happens to both units.

I just reloaded version 3.94 and let both units sit on in the driveway for a few hours. When I went out bot units seemed to have GPS signal. If I can just get back to something trustworthy I will be happy. It will be a few days before I can get back out on the water to see if this is the fix or not.

Bad Habit,
Make sure you restore defaults BEFORE you update. Also the current update should be newer than 3.94.
Should be 4.5, I think.

I have exactyl the same issues.  It loses the interlink all the time and just as often loses the ASGRA antennae I now use.  I was thinking of backing my unit up to a previous software version as well as I never had this issue.  I also have the unit lock up randomly and it reboots itself some times.  I have a brand new 30 series AGM battery and still the same issues.  Power cord is directly wired to the battery and reads 12.6 volts most of the time.

ALWAYS RESTORE DEFAULTS BEFORE UPDATING. BOTH MY UNITS(1197 &997) ARE CURRENT WITHOUT AN ISSUE. I don't have an antennae issue. But, on occasion my big unit will shut off. I need to spread the power pins outward slightly(contact issue). This same issue occured to two of the classic fishermen. Not a common issue at all. It occurs so little the correction is not common knowledge out there. We all disconnect our large units for safety. The pins tend to bend in the direction we pull the plug. We all usually squeeze the "lock pins"  on the box connector and torque the connector back and forth to remove it. After time we probably bend the inner pins enough that one is bent away from a good connection. Hope this helps. There are new updates, more current than 4.5 available for top end units. They can be found on this board.

I have also had this issue with my 997c and GRHA and Interlink using 4.510.  Have you tried to update to 4.570 yet?
