Title: Interlnk between 998c SI and Matrix 37
Post by: colecchio on December 23, 2010, 02:02:25 PM
I recently connected my new 998c SI to my old Matrix 37 via the AS Interlink module.

At first , there was no connectivity, which required me to update the 37's software.

Now that I did, I'm getting the GPS connectivity but scrolling through the views on the 37 only gives me a numeric position and the boat / cursor icon illustrated on a grid. I was expecting a chart view to compliment the 998's view.

Is this the limit of functionality of the interface or is there some  adjustment I can make in the 37 to show the chart?

I'd call Humminbird and ask, but they are closed until the 28th.

Hello Gary and welcome to the forum!

I'm not familiar with your Matrix, so I read through your Matrix' owner's manual, (http://www.humminbird.com/PDF/Matrix10_12_17_20_27_37.pdf (http://www.humminbird.com/PDF/Matrix10_12_17_20_27_37.pdf)),
but couldn't find any hints for charts. I guess your Matrix doesn't have any charts installed, so there won't show up a chart like in your newer unit.

Best regards / Harry

Thank you Harry.

Not displaying the chart because there are no pre loaded charts really doesn't make too much sense. The machine was advertised as " GPS Ready" which a implys that all you need to do is add a receiver to achieve that functionality.  And that was the assumption I made when puchasing the Interlink module which was advertised as compatable with the 37.

I can see the birds eye view and chart screen, but there are no graphics. You don't think that the Interlink transfers those along with the coordinate data?

The optional receiver did not come with charts included. Where are they supposed to come from?

Well you maybe right , Harry. I just looked at the receiver manuals and they only show the grid tracking feature without the charts like I see.

If you were expecting to see the mapping on the Matrix that you have on the 998, it isn't going to happen. No mapping is shared via any linking system.
The Matrix 37 is a GPS track plotter when a GPS antenna is connected directly or thru the Interlink, and doesn't have any mapping and none can be added.  Waypoints, routes, and tracks are shared via Interlink.

Well, that blows.

If I knew that, I would not have made the investment in the Interlink.

Foolish me.
