WELL it is raining cats and dogs and there is lightning and thunder so now is a good time to ask my ;) question. I have a 998C SI NVB with the transducer located on the port side near the bottom of the deep V of the transom. Everything works great - even the starboard side image even though the TD is on the Port side and I was worried that the motor/bubbles would cause a problem - no such thing ;D Even on my very first trip I was able to easily recognize individual rocks that had fallen off of Masonboro Inlet's jetty from over 150' away from the jetty! :) However the port side ' image' isn't ie there is just some minor clutter (horizongtal streaks ) and nothing else no matter what setting is used. :( Every thing other than this is working better than I had exptected - super solid bottom even at top speed and my setup does not produce any rooster tail. Any thoughts, ideas would be greatly appreciated. Was going to take a picture but see opening sentence. ;D Any ideas, help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've already learned SO much from this forum that I'm sure I saved a huge amount of time by following the setup ideas presented on this forum. If you know someone with another HB SI unit, the first thing would be to determine if the problem is the headunit or the transducer. Connect your headunit to their transducer and see if you have the same problem and/or vice versa. If your headunit works OK on a different transducer your transducer is the problem.
You might also try doing a factory reset and see if that might clear up the problem. It is not likely that this will fix the problem but it takes about 10 seconds and you never know. Also check and make sure the correct transducer is selected in the menu.

That doesn’t have to be another 998c unit transducer either as any of the Humminbird Side Imaging unit transducer will work for this test. All you are looking for is a comparable image in both the left and right Si sonar beams.

Sadly :( I don't know anyone else around Wilmington NC , Atlantic City NJ or Northern Delaware who has a HB SI unit. Ray

Than you need to call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks at 1-800-633-1468 about getting your unit and transducer sent in to be tested.

We have been seeing a increase in this problem especially around the time the '98s were released.
I would send in to HB.
Several times I have posted here about folks putting location in their profile......just for times like this...
