Title: 597 freezing up

Hi all first post and its a question!
I have 597 and everytime I re-start my boat it freezes up and I have to take it off its base and re-install...any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like you are starving your 597 unit of the power it needs to operate properly.  Get your battery load tested to see if it is weak.  If it has always done this you may need to look at going to a larger capacity battery and/or changing how your 597 unit is wired to the battery.  Wiring straight to the battery (through a 3-amp in-line fuse) is the best electrical connection option.  Depending on the distance you have to lengthen the standard power cable, you may need to use a heavier wire like a 16 AWG multi-stranded copper wire.  Solder all electrical connections and seal them.  Install a new fuse holder and fuse (I like the flat blade type ones) while you are at it and clean off the battery connections and posts.
