Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums kooterpatrol.

Is this a new unit/installation?
What transducer(s) are you suing with the 1198 unit?
Where is/are the transducer(s) installed?
What type of boat do you have?

So did this same set-up work at speeds faster than 10mph for the first year?

It probably is the installation of the HDSi transducer than kp.
I believe that a Searay is a fiberglass boat, right?  You could install an inside-the-hull DualBeam (XP-9-20) transducer and an AS-Si-DB-Y cable and get better high speed water depth readings or you could try adjusting or moving the HDSi transducer you have now.  If you want to try and adjust it or move it, try posting some pictures of the transom area of your boat’s hull.  We need to see it from left, right and behind and at a low angle (about the same height as the transducer).

Does your Si sonar look good where the transducer is now?

kp,
The pictured HDSi transducer will have to be lowered down quite a bit to enable high-speed water depth readings and the left Si sonar is being blocked.  Refer back to the installation instructions for how low it should be or go with an inside-the-hull DualBeam transducer (maybe the XAP-9-20 Angled-Puck inside-the-hull DualBeam, in your case).  From the looks of it you may also have to mount another HDSi transducer on the left side of the motor to keep it from blocking the left Si sonar (an AS-Si-LR-Y cable would be needed for this).

Where is the 1198 you have now mounted and where are you planning on installing the second 1198 unit?
How is each unit going to be used; both displaying sonar or one sonar and one GPS,…?

Maybe you should mount the second 1198’s transducer on the left side of the motor, install a DualBeam transducer inside-the-hull and connect all the transducer together with an AS-Si-LR-Y cable and an AS-Si-DB-Y cable. Then network the two 1198 units together.  No interference between the two units, no blockage of the Si sonar and it should read much better above 10 mph.

Yes, to Ethernet the two 1198c Si units together you will need an Ethernet Connection Cable (AS-EC-XXE where the “XX” is the cable length.  Comes in 2, 10, 15, 20 and 30-foot lengths).

An inside-the-hull (aka: shoot-thru) transducer will transmit/receive the sonar out of the bottom of the boat.

A speed n temp  transducer will only give you water speed and temperature, not sonar.  Look for the XP-9-20 or since your boat has such a high deadrise angle the XAP-9-20 transducer.

The XP-9-20 and XAP-9-20 transducers?  The XAP has a 14 degree angled bottom so it that it will allow the transducer to point more directly downwards when mounted inside-the-hull of a boat.

If you don’t think that this will be enough of an angle I’ve got an alternative you could use.

You will need another LakeMaster mapping card if you want those maps to appear on both units.

I would connect all transducers up to your console mounted unit and, through the Ethernet connection, share the sonar to the second 1198c Si unit.

Both HDSi transducers connected to the AS-Si-LR-Y cable.
This gets connected on the “Side Imaging” side of the As-Si-DB-Y cable.
The XAP transducer gets connected to the “Dual Beam” side of the AS-Si-DB-Y cable.
All this gets connected to the console mounted 1198 unit.

The Ethernet connection will allow you to share the GPS Receiver as well.  I would use just the one GPS Receiver and keep the other as a spare for back-up just in case.

XAP 9 20 | Shoot Thru The Hull | 710165-1
http://www.humminbird.com/Products/XAP-9-20/

Without a DualBeam transducer connected the unit has no way to determine water depth.
