what might be causing the horizontal lines were it's showing depth?

Could be surface clutter.      motor noise.  or cavitation   chuck

On another thought...where is the transudcer located.

I think that Chuck is on the right track here: if you look at the images the horizontal lines are shown in the Di sonar well.  This means that they also have to be present in the Si sonar – but we just don’t seem them as well.  They are there but only showing on the left side of the zero line.  We don’t see them that well because the range for the Di is set to 20 feet while the range for the Si is set to 161 feet and the lines appear smaller and closer to the zero line due to the scaling (range) selected.  I bet that if Fador would set the Si Range menu to 20 feet that they would show up as well on the Si sonar data too.

You’ve got something blocking part of the left Si sonar beam.  If it’s your boat motor you should be able to trim the motor up and it go away.  If it doesn’t than it is something else causing the blockage.

i cannot see anything blocking the ducer

The transducer looks like it is in a good location.   dont know if the motor is cavitating or prop wash.  Hard mounted transducers seem to work well on some and not so well on others.  I get the best pictures when the transducer is about a foot in the water.  Because we have an adjustable shaft this is not a problem.  However not all can do this so with the hard mounted we may have some distortion or top energy.  dont know how to solve this except to try different location.  Dont know how to do this without drilling a lot of mounting holes. Hmmmmmmmmmm.  Not a lot of help for you I know.  Again we find that 6 to 12 inches in the water works well as long as the boat bottom does not get in the way.  Another thing that works for us is bow mounted as opposed to stern mounted.  Keep us informed of any changes you make or findings.  Good topic as it does affect different users.
