My current chip is dated 2006 (I think), I'm in the Florida Keys, would life be a lot better with a new (or newer) chip?
I have a 997c SI on the skiff and just put an 1158c on the big boat, my plan is to just move the chip to the boat I'm fishing today.
Thanks,

Hey Mark :)
It is always better to have a new card, maybe you can get a update ore a upgrade.

Do not know if you really need to upgrade your card, many times the upgrades are minimal and/or in different areas then you use.
If you do decide to get the latest version, you may want to try and sell your current chip to a local fisherman in the area. You may be able to 50% for an earlier version of the same card (just a thought).
Someone may not be able to afford to buy a new card and would love to have an older version at a good price.

I would check with Navionics to see if there have been any updates for your area before buying a new map card.

Hey Mark,
Best bet is to check navionics.com and see what changes to your area they're are before spending the cash. I can tell you (or anyone else that is reading this) that when you purchase a new chip this year you are eligible for free updates for a year through your PC. So if Navionics adds a new lake, or new data you will be able to put the card into your card reader on your PC/laptop and download the new data for free. No more sending in chips it's all done from your home computer. Also when you buy a new chip this year they will also give you their new PC app as a free download. This will allow you view charts on youe computer the same way you can on your smart phone. You can get all this info from the Navionics site. Always better to spend 10 minutes checking before you spend your hard eraned $$$. Hope this helps.
