Helix 9 / footpedal and minn kota Terrova connections.
« on: March 24, 2019, 05:21:48 PM »
Heya everyone, i have been a member here for some time reading about the different fishfinders but now its time for me to ask for some help since im at a dead end.

I have a generation 1 Helix 7 si gps on my console.
At the bow im runing a Minn Kota Terrova BT 55 i-Pilot 54"
I also have a corded footpedal for it.

Now, last week i ordered a Helix 9 gen3 mega+ si gps unit.

I have been thinking about moving the Helix 7 that i currently have on the console to the bow next to the Terrova and connect the two of them so i can use universal sonar , but by doing so i use up the only plug for my footpedal and also there wont be anything left for my helix 9 to hook up to i guess.

so as far as i understand, there is 1 plug on the trolling motor, and in total i need 3 for the pedal and 2 fishfinders?

what do i need to purchase to use all my items with the trolling motor?

Just noticed that my trolling motor dosnt even have US2 so there is no point in even bothering with the helix 7. it just comes down to linking helix 9 and foot pedal to the trolling motor. ;D

Kind regards // Marcus

Is you Helix 7 a networkable model "G1N or G2N"? Is your Terrova a "Ipilot Link " model? If they are then you will need a Hummininbird Ethernet Hub and appropriate cables to connect it all together. From your description I don't think your parts and pieces are capable of being networked.  More detail is needed to help you...

I have an older Terrova with out i Link, it has two cables coming out of its head. But it does have universal sonar. It is not a networkable T/M. I just recently bought a Ulterra, with I link. It is connected to a ETHERNET hub, and the necessary adaptor cables. On Minn Kota web site if you look at the support pages it will list the owner's and installation manuals, for PRE 2017 T/M units and the ones built after 2017 w/Bluetooth. I down loaded all the manuals for my T/M before I bought it to read up on every thing I would need to network every body. I believe that your T/M is too old or a base model that can't be linked/networked. AS the other fellow stated need more information.

Hey guys and thank you so much for the help.

Yes I have been googling like mad and reading up on my units and motor and come to the conclusion that not much can be done, motor is the basic version with only the plug on it for a foot pedal, no IP link just regular IP and no us2 on it.

Helix 7 is a generation one unit which means it can't be networked directly to the gen 3 helix 9 without a switch as far as I have understood it.

And the motor has the lift assist so I can't get the ducer cord from the helix 7 down the shaft to mount it.

Any suggestions on what I can do with the helix 7 si gps? Place it next to the helix 9 on the console or just bin it ?

Sorry if my first post was confusing 😂

Thanks // Marcus.

One point I would offer just for clarification  ... HELIX 7 G1 cannot be networked in any configuration  ... It is a stand alone model only  ... (HELIX 7's did not come in network able models until HELIX 7 G2N)  ...
-----

There is benefit in having a separate screen just for mapping  ... Keep the HELIX 7 for full screen mapping or split screen Chart/Chart where each pane can be used at a different zoom level (1 side zoomed close for at hand work  ... and 1 side zoomed out for planning ahead)  ...

Thanks for the help on clarifying this so I didn't rush to buy a switch.

So I should run both transducers on the transom ? And just use gps/ mapping on helix 7 and run si/di on the 9 ? Thanks// Marcus.

I think that's a good plan  ...

Be sure to experiment with the split Chart/Chart view  ... It's really handy having the same map zoomed at 2 different zoom levels  ...
