Title: Minn Kota 42ex (1997)
Post by: johng789 on January 30, 2012, 09:03:23 AM
I am about to buy a new 798 cxi HD SI. I have a Minn Kota 42ex variable speed trolling motor vintage 1997.

Would be grateful for any advice or experiences on interference using this combination?

I can mount the standard transducer XNT 9 SI 180T a foot or so away from the TM

Or should I buy the shielded TM transducer XTM 9SI 180T and mount it on the TM ?

Many thanks

There are no guarantees that you will or will not have interference from the trolling motor.  Most of the interference comes from the battery maximizer circuitry (PWM or Pulse Width Modulation) of the trolling motor but it can also come from arcing com brushes from the motor as well.  I have no idea whether your trolling motor has the maximizer circuitry or not.

If I had to choose… I would opt for mounting the transducer farther away from the trolling motor if it does not cause any problems.

Also you can do several searches on this forum.  One for trolling motor interference and the other in the gallery for picture of installations.
Interference has bee a continued issu for some installations and a lot has been posted within this forum.
