5.8 update with black screen (no transducer attached)
« on: May 09, 2012, 05:34:45 PM »
I updated my 997 to the 5.840 over the winter.  It is not currently hooked up to my transducer.  I just turned it on to make sure all is working and my SI screens are black in normal mode.  Is this normal to see black screens? My regular sonar screens are white.
Do I have to be in water in normal mode, with my transducer to see my sonar, SI, and DI screens work perfect?
Could there have been a glitch in the download?
In simulation mode it shows everything perfect.
Sorry for such a trivial question, but I don't recall what the screens looked like after the last upgrade.

If this is normal, thanks!
If not should I re download the 5.8 update to my SD card again and try to re load it? (I will restore my settings)
(When I put the SD card in today it said that I have the 5.840 update and no further updates are  available- I assume this means all is well- or should I go through the entire procedure again?)

If your transducer is not hooked up, or if you have your sonar
set to 'Off', then you won't see any images on the 2d, SI, or DI views.
I'm not sure if the views will even display.

If the transducer is hooked up and set to 'On', while out of the water, you won't see much,
but the views will be working.  You should see water temperature, but in this
case, it will be the air temperature around the transducer.

For the sonar to function properly, and to be able to see something, you will have to be on the water.
