Helix 5 SI GPS NOT SAVE the Downscan channell !!!
« on: April 06, 2016, 08:05:26 AM »
Dear HUMMINBIRD Company!

I have Humminbird Helix 5 SI GPS sonar.
I have bought the Reefmaster Sonarviewer program yesterday.
In the Program can i not see the Downscan Pictures,/Chanell . It is on the Screen : “Not available” .???
Then i send same Sonar .DAT files to Reefmaster Ltd.

Here is the Answer of Reefmaster Ltd:

"Hi Barnabas,
Your recordings do not contain the downscan channel, which is present in the B004.SON file. Your recordings contain B000-3, which includes primary, secondary and Sidescan port/starboard.
Some Humminbird units "fake" downscan display by rotating and superimposing both sidescan channels, and this is probably the case for your unit. They do not run or record a separate sonar channel, and consequently we do not display it within the Sonar Viewer.
All of the "downscan" information that your see on your unit is present in the sidescan display.

Best regards,
Matt Fender
ReefMaster Software Ltd."

I thought that the Humminbird Helix 5 save all frequencies (Including 80 , 200 Hz , Downscan and Sidescan).
I can switch between screens on sonar, it does not affect backups.
In HumViewer can i see downscan too. !?! Not nice...

What's the problem? It's in my Humminbird Unit or in Reefmaster?

This deception of customers ??????
Does anyone have idea of the solution?

Best regards,
Barnabas Bata MD

There is no sonar data for DI since the DI on this SI unit is derived (via software in the unit) from the SI beams....The raw data is recorded so .......no DI data would be present.
There is no DI element in the transducer, so there is no data to record other than the 2D and SI.

I don't have a unit with a dedicated DI transducer, so I don't know how the recording works in that case.

Humviewer does interpret the SI channels into a DI view ... But it is merely a software rendition of the same SI data that Bob mentions ...

There has never been a dedicated DI piezo in the core series HB SI units ...therefore there is no DI channel to save ...

See no DI piezo in the HB SI xducer ...

The computer generated DI view was created in a software release in early 2010 (before HB released the dedicated DI units in late 2010) ...

A dedicated HB DI piezo combined in the same SI xducer wasn't released until ONIX ...

Hi,

Thank you a lot of new information !
When buying a sonar DI and i make the SI program to upload, then make is a SI unit to receive. ? ?
Has anyone tried to do that ?

It depresses me a little bit , Reefmaster the program can not deal with this Downscan problem .
It seems that the Lowrance devices are developed first and foremost.
Lowrance and SImrad Sonar have DI piezo ?

Best Regards,
Barnabás

In the current Helix series and previous "core" units, Humminbird has DI units with a dedicated Di transducer if DI is important to you.

Also, the Onix series SI unit utilized an "all in one" transducer that includes a dedicated DI piezo and has excellent DI and SI in one unit.

Don't have the Onix, so not familiar with the record / playback options with it....Rickie can probably help you there if you are interested since he has an Onix unit.

I'm not understanding your 1st question ...

Like Bob mentions ... HB has a line of dedicated DI units with a dedicated DI piezo ...

Only ONIX has the capability for 2d/dedicated DI/SI all in the same xducer ...

Other brands also have similar units ...
