1198 temperature readout
« on: June 16, 2014, 03:42:52 AM »
Hi there. Is anyone had issues with an incorrect temperature readout on their 1198 unit. Just recently I am getting readouts that are 40 or more degrees out. For example when it might be 76 in the water I have had readouts from 3 to 40 throughout the day. There does not appear to be any damage around the transducer. Everything else is functioning as expected.

More than likely a poor conncetion or the sensor in the transducer gone bad. Cheap and quick to clean the pins. Bob

Have you changed software versions lately to cause this issue to show up...??

In addition to Bob's suggestion...you can Restore Factory Defaults and test again...

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try cleaning the pins as I had not thought of that. I do tow the boat over some very dusty roads. I haven't done a software upgrade for some time so I do not think that is the problem. I do have another new transducer unit to put on if all fails. I am still using the transducer off the older 898c si so that may have started to fail through age and perhaps minor damage.  I will let people know what I find. thanks.

plug your spare transducer in and hang it over the side. You will know right away if it is the transducer.

I think the temp sensor can be tested in Normal or Simulator while the boat is not on the water...

The readout should show the ambient temp...

You can put yor finger on the temp probe and watch the temp readout climb from your finger's body heat...

I replaced the transducer and the problem is fixed. There was some slight tearing of the flexible joint of the cable as it entered the transducer pod. I am assuming that water has entered or something else was damaged.
