I have installed Version 6.310 without any problems now need to get it on the lake to check it out. To date I have installed every update without any problems (knock on wood). Also, I immediately changed the name to 976310.bin, this way when I save the files on my harddrive I know what version it is. The system does not care what the name is as long as the extension is "bin".

You are right George on the name. We on the forum downloads use the unit type and the release level and the _ character. It does not matter as long as it ends in bin.
Your suggestion is good in that you will always know the level you are at. And able to keep back levels if needed.

Went out with the new update and everything checked out alright. Not sure if it was this or the 6.180 that added the navigation pointer arrow, but I really like that feature. Allows you to set up the drift to be on the line you want. That was key fishing for walleyes with a drift sock. As far as I can tell everything is working good. I used my XM weather, Navigation, and all modes of Sonar. Did not record anything so I can't comment on that feature. It all seemed to work as advertised. No slow clicks or anything abnormal. Did have to play with sensitivity as I was at Stockton lake which is rock bottom and deeper than my normal Smithville home waters. Overall a positive install.

I see that its stated as a 1197 update but is it for the 1198 as well?

That is for the 1197. The 1198 is still the 6.180 level..
