899ci hd si Depth issue
« on: May 19, 2016, 03:27:56 PM »
I recently purchased an 899ci hd si finder to replace my 798ci.  I bought a new minnkota and wanted the ability to link it with the i-pilot and my 798 did not offer that.

I have had it out three times now and I am having an issue with depth.  I will be trolling along at lets say 80-120ft and then all of the sudden it loses bottom and the depth jumps to 20, then 50, then xxx (random depths).  Shallower than the actual depth though, and will stay that way for a while but will eventually correct itself.  I cant seem to figure out whats up.  I have the transducer in the same location as the one I took off that went with the 798.  I never had any problems like this with the 798.  I am wondering if the transducer is bad.

I have tried the following when the depth is not reading correctly:
Adjusted the max depth (not on auto)
Reinstalled updates
Unplugged the unit from the harness and plugged it back in
Reset unit to default settings

I bought it from Cabela's and they will exchange it for a new unit up to June 10th which is the 90 day return policy deadline.  Not sure what to do.  I could just exchange it and see what happens....but that is kind of a waste of time if there is something else going on.

Any advice is appreciated!

I would exchange it, sounds like there's either an issue with XDCR or the control head.

I'd exchange it too. No reason to start out like that.

Have you verified the xducer is parallel with the water's surface to allow the 2d to be "aimed" straight down ... ??
