Title: 899ci HD SI "Jigging mode"
Post by: kickingback on January 11, 2015, 12:43:02 PM
Just curious, can anyone enlighten me on the update and specifically what does the new "jigging mode" do for you? Thanks.

I would be interested also to know what this feature really does and what it is for? I have noticed that when it is turned on, it brings more details on screen but I'm not sure how it should be used if I set up my device manually anyway.

The short version of the answer is that with jigging mode ON, the 2D is pinged more often which improves the 2D performance and sensitivity ...... it may be necessary to turn down the 2D sensitivity when jigging mode is turned on.

The longer version is that when Humminbird introduced software version 6.57, they changed the transducer ping sequence which enhanced the SI performance, but really messed up the 2D performance......The 2D was VERY pixelated in all the releases between 6.57 and the release that introduced jigging mode.
When jigging mode is turned on, the 2D is pinged one extra time in the sequence, but the SI is pinged one less time in the sequence (back to the ping sequence that was used in 6.49 software release)......So theoretically the SI would be somewhat degraded when jigging mode is turned on.....but most people say they don't notice any significant difference in the SI.....but the 2D is enhanced.

Rickie will probably check in and give you even more details.... ;D

You explained it very well Bob ...

Thanks for the good reply!

Like I said, I have noticed that jigging mode is bringing more details on the screen so I have adjusted the sensitivity a bit lower. It was curious why the mode was built suddenly when I updated the my Humminbird :).
