Recorded Files
« on: February 13, 2010, 05:37:25 PM »
Hi.  looking for some recorded files to use with our map maker program.  would like files in the range of 1.5 mb to 2mb.  Looking for the R00XXX.dat file and the associated folder of the same name containing the .son and the .idx files (there should be 6 files in this folder).  Send the files to sivi2010@aol.com.   I will post back to you files that convert successfuly and also a map of the data extracted.  Thanks in advance for help in getting these files.  Chuck  (sonar2000)

George  thanks.  Go ahead and send one of the records.  If you get out tomorrow  make a recording and send.  If you have time go over the same area a couple of times.  maybe n to s and then e to w. or which ever compass direction that lines up with the lake.  When you send the files I wll extract the lon lat for the map.  so hold off on your map for a bit.   sending the file might be a bit of a task for the computer.  If you have trouble I can point you to a site for sending large files.  Thanks for the help.  Chuck

ok george  here is the scan.  as you can see there is only one track.  If you run today do e/w/n/s.  I can get a better idea of the bottom.  chuck

george   I looked at your recording in HV44.  could it be that you also had your transducer not deep enough in the water.  It looked like it was right at the top and I was seeing top water ripple.  or was the boat bouncing a bit.  If it is not fixed  try lowering it a bit.  chuck

My transducer is just below the bottom of the the aluminum boat.  Also the SI transducer does have some movement up/down which is part of the brackets design as far as I know.

OK. Some of the stratus lines appeared in your recording as in ours when the transducer is not deep enough in the water.  When recording at slow speeds (less than 5 mph) we adjust our bracket to have the transducer about 1 foot under the surface.  Of course you have to pay attention to your surroundings and not hit a log or some other object.   Your data came out ok but needed more cross runs.  Will wait for your new recording.  Did you get to the bigfile site for sending.  Chuck

Chuck,
I sent you some files. This time just in .csv format, 'cause the "Record" folders and .DAT files took too long to get out.

when running sonar/gps for the maps try to run the scan track as the following picture suggests.  This gives me more plotting data.  Chuck

Not sure the picture came out as intended.  the picture depicts  mutiple tracks (black) just nudging each other in one direction and then back and then the (Red)  is the cross section tracks in a 90 degree to the orginal tracks.  Now that I have confused everyone, hope you will see the picture as intended.
Once you run the tracks call up the run in HV44 and then export the file to a .csv format.  that file will be considerably smaller than the sonar/gps files(s).  For my map I just need the .csv file.  If I have a particular need to see the sonar at a location I can ask and give you the HHMMSS to go to and you can go to that and copy the screen to me.  Thanks Harry and George.  chuck

george, got you files....thanks.  R00138 was a single track and too short for any real data.  R00139 was better as you make a circle which will produce more data.  for best data extraction it will help if the tracks overlap and crisscross.  I will get your pictures posted of the R00139.  chuckila_rendered

Chuck are these from the data I sent in the mail?

After recording the first set North South, the wind started blowing, because of the buoy line I could not cross over some of the initial set of lines.

Yes George.  This is from the R00139 data.  the R00138 was too short and did not have much other than a short straight line.  The R00139 had a circle so we got more data but to really map the bottom we need overlapping tracks.  dont spend any money shipping disks.  we will figure a better way to get  data. I think Robert is working on an FTP area.  this will help.   but from the run you can see what can be shown.  Especially the 3d.    On the 3d I have even seen  planes, helicopters and boat wrecks show up as a contour.  kind of interesting.  Thanks for the data.  Chuck

I thought the data I mailed to you was 136 and 137.

136 was north/south and 137 was overlapping east west with one extra north/south line to fill in a gap.

Did you use both files?  One is north/south the other is overlapping east/west.

Below is the pic of 136 and 137, excluding the tracks going in and out.  North/South track starts against a buoy line keeping us away from the dam  ??? ???.

George I just used the R00137.  the R00136 was only a straight line and did not have enough data to produce any map with meaning.  Mapping is best when the paths overlap and cross at right angles.  Hopefully Robert will get the FTP working and we can upload files easier.  In the meantime if you have a particular area to be mapped just get me the run.  thanks George and chat some time on line.   Chuck

OK Geprge.  I have three hard disks on this computer.  maybe I need to buy another computer an dedicate to sonar.  that will give me 9 computer.  but I can paint them each a different color so maybe i can keep them straight.  whew.
OK I have your R00136 and R00137 sorted out.  The R00136 is a N-S run and the R00137 is an E-W run.  OK I can plot those now.    For a good plot in the future if you can incorporate the N-S and the E-W in one recording that will give us a very accurate map.  I am working on merging the two files now so that we can get all the data in one file as long as it is generally in the same area.    hold on for more pictures.  Chuck

all right  I have the two recording mapped.  the do look a little funny as the area is kind of narrow due to the directional runs.  I can send e-mail if you want.  I am still working on merging the two  that will show a real nice map if it works.  hohum.  chuck

I am in the process of sending you R000136 via "Transfer Big Files".  I have had a few problems in sending but I am on the last one B003.son.

I am not sure about B000.son, please let me know if you have received it.  The mapping took a few hours to do so I would like to make sure you have the information you need.

George.  here is the flat file for R00136   as you can see getting a wider area of scan N-S and E-W would improce the bathymetric and the 3d.  We can get an idea of the layout but 90 degree cross scans would help.  I am still trying to merge the two data sets to see if we can make the recording easier and smaller.  Thanks.  Chuck
