It's hard to tell but it looks like 2 of the little ports on the pig tail from my unit that connects into the wire to the puck looks like 2 of the holes are a little wider than the other 2. I might just order a new wire. Can you just buy that 18" pig tail that pluds into the unit?

I ordered an AS YC cable from Humminbird. I figured that if there is any connection problem some where I can try to eliminate with a new cable. man, those Humminbird sales reps are sooo nice! Well I hope this will solve any more problems I'll have.

For some reason my GPS worked in my driveway.Turned the unit on and off many times and it worked.Got to the lake and turned the power on and it worked great. It worked fine. Than after about 5 hours I turned the unit of to see if it will come back on. After I powered my unit back up I lost GPS for the rest of the day.  ???

Have you got another antenna to switch to or a friend near by just switch the wires or another head you can try
with your present antenna. You need to figure out if it is your 1=Head 2=Antenna 3=Connections 4=Wiring.
Thanks Gary

I have a new Y cable coming so I'm going to try that first. If that don't work I'm just going to send it in.

If you used your unit for 5 hours on the water,
then it quit on you, it may be a battery issue.
The voltage in your battery may have dropped
to less than 10.5 volts.

I would recommend charging up your battery
then load testing it.
It doesn't matter if your battery is new or
you know it's good.

A load test will quickly tell if it can sustain
a load and still keep adequate voltage.

Good Luck.

It didn't turn off by itself though. After I turned the unit off and than back on again to check it is when I couldn't get my GPS back.

The only other thing I would suggest is to
make sure all of your battery and unit connections
are good and tight.

Also, it might take more battery voltage to start up
your unit, than to keep it running.
Your battery may be borderline.

I charged up all my batteries to full than load tested them. The load test said they are good. I powered up my unit and hag all my maps and GPS. I am running the 4.9 update on my unit now. I also run a StayNCharge on my boat so every time I start the big motor my batteries are getting topped off and stay pretty much full all the time.

No. I had my batteries all charged up with 14v going to the battery. I had my maps and gps everytime I powered up my unit. I did it about 7 or 8 times. Than all of a sudden they would not load.I tried a few times and also waited about 10 mins to see if it will load them but no luck.Once I get my new Y cable I'm hoping that will do it.

Hmmmm. I just tried it again tonight. I powered up my unit and my maps and GPS came right up. Now my unit has been unplugged for 2 days now. Before I even tried to unplug and wait a few mins and plugged it back in and it didn't work. Seems like it just wants to work when it feels like it it. LOL Drives me nuts. My luck it wont work when I get on the water. What's this sound like it is doing?

It sounds to me like you have a loose plug that is
making intermittent contact.
I've heard of people breaking off a toothpick
between the plug and the unit to keep it tight.

Anybody else have any ideas?

bassburner15,
Try eliminating the AS-YC and plug the GPS Receiver directly into your 997 unit to see if you get different results or not.

I have powered it up a bunch of times and it seems to be working.I disconnected the power from the unit a few times also and it seems to be working. I hope my problems are solved. My problem could have been from unplugging in every time I get home from the lake for the last 2 1/2 years and I'm thinking the cable just got worn out where the pins fit into.My unit has been unplugged about 1,000 times. LOL We will find out if this is why after going to the lake a few times and powering on and off to see what happends.

I want to thank Robert and everyone for helping me with this.It really means a lot to me. This is a great site and have learned quite a bit here lately! I will keep you all posted on this.
