Lakemaster Louisiana Delta & Lakemaster+ SE States review
« on: April 06, 2016, 10:42:39 PM »
Preview of LM La Delta. I didn't realize it before I bought it but it is satellite view only. But it is definitely more accurate. The 1st pic is LM and 2nd is Navionics+ (current). Nav shows a platform (it is under the Tide icon) that has not been there for several years and LM does not. The Nav map has alot more detail and shows pipelines and other stuff. There are some wrecked platforms that are barely above water and some that are on the bottom that you can find with the Nav map. As of now I prefer my Nav map. LM will be excellent navigating new areas.

Here is a shot of Lake List. You can filter them by State, County, Size, Distance etc. There are a lot more lakes that are HD than is advertised on HB list. If you need to know if a lake of your interest is listed, let me know and I will be glad to let you know.

I do not think my Nav mapping has any lakes on it to compare, but if I do I will attach pics for comparison.

After many hours of reviewing Navionics+ and Lakemaster mapping, here are some things that I noted. The LM definitely has the newest satellite mapping. At least 3 to 4 years newer than Nav. But in my own situation, old data is sometimes useful. Old paltforms and wrecks that are no longer visible may have structure beneath the water. La Delta is satellite view and shows no depth numbers, but Navionic's don't have many either. So in the end it is valuable to have both.

Navionics/Onix also has the ability to click on a nautical symbol or icon and it will give you data about it. The data is not 100%, but I found it useful.

The LM mapping is slower when rapidily zooming and slower for the Overlay to overlay the base map. The quality of map seams are about equal.

The LM+ SE States looks good and will be my go to mapping for lakes.

Not much changes on lakes. But in La Marsh, structure and land changes are very dynamic and dramatic. A "football size area disappears every hour".  "Two years ago, NOAA removed 31 bays and other features from the Buras charts". There is no way to keep mapping up to date for these marshes. You just have to deal with land not being where your GPS shows it. You better know where the channels are, either from experience or an older map. I know several people that got stuck in low tide and had to wait 20+ hrs for tide to change. It happens  :-X

I went to my Nav WebbApp for a comparison between Lakemasters+ SE States and Navionic+. Both shots are from Grenada Lake in Ms.

The 1st pic is Lakemaster embellished with depth colors with 1ft contour and a few waypoints! (shhh... :-X)

The 2nd pic is from Navionics WebbApp. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that is what it will look like on unit. [ Specified attachment is not available ] [ Specified attachment is not available ]

3rd pic is LM+ without an embellishments. Tried to make it as close to Nav map as possible.
