if a unit shows fish in more non arch or ball like echoes how do i adjust my unit to improve arch appearance

Hi Harry,
I tried to get better fish arches last week, after my arches missed the tail end.
I found out, that if I raise the rear end of the transducer the arches begin to show complete.
If I raise the rear end further up, the front end of the arches start to disappear.
The sensitivity setting is also critical.
Try to adjust the transducer like I described. If you have "full" arches, play around with the sensitivity.

You are talking about in the 2D sonar right? Otherwise I doubt that you will see any arches in the Si sonar as the Si beams are just too narrow for this.
Make sure you are running the latest software version for your unit. If it has it and you are in deeper than about 10-feet of water; set the TVG menu to “Off”. You can also try setting the Beam Select menu to the 200/83kHz setting (or just view the Split Screen Sonar View). Also the boat has to be moving and the Chart Speed setting has to be set properly for arches to be shown. Fast boat speed and/or slow chart speeds will result in blobs or narrow marks on the display. Slow boat speeds or fast chart speeds will result in arches that are so wide that you may not recognize them as such.
Jolly Roger is correct: if you have a long leading edge to your arches but no trailing edge you need to raise the back end of your transducer. If you see the opposite (no leading edge but all trailing edge) than you need to drop the back end of the transducer.
