New Transducer for 798
« on: August 28, 2013, 08:52:28 PM »
Hoping to get some advice on a replacement transducer for my 798c SI (pre-Ethernet version). I pinched the transducer cable on my current XTM 9 SI 180 T and it severed several of the wires. Based on what I've read and a response from Humminbird support, it doesn't sound like a repair of the cable is possible so if I'm down to purchasing a new transducer I'd like to know if it would be of any benefit to step up to the HDSI model. The unit is at the bow w/ transducer on the TM. I've also had some interference issues from the TM and due to that have never really gotten the full benefit of the SI or DI but hope to include the HB choke with whatever transducer I get and see if I can resolve this issue as well. Any thoughts, advice or recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

Chuck

I am also about to get a another transducer and quick connect mount/power cable up front.

which HDSI transducer is it for the 798 ci hd... i saw a few on amazon? Chuck which one did you finally decide on?

XTM9, HSX9, ect not 100% sure which one to buy for up front on the trolling motor.

also i'm gonna get a Transducer Shield for it. Not sure which one of those i need either?

XHS 9 HDSI 180 T is the upgrade xducer that comes with transom mounting hardware...
XTM 9 HDSI 180 T is the upgrade xducer that comes with trolling motor mounting hardware...

The xducers are the same...the mounting hardware is different..

The Transducer Shield and Saver will work with either....because the xducer housings are identical...

oh by the way... just curious which transducer came in the box of the 798ciHD's,
im guessing not the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T and why didn't they come with them.

All of the 798 units were packaged with the XNT-9-Si-180-T Compact Side Imaging (CSi) transducer.
This is a lower cost transducer versus the larger and more expensive XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducer and was developed to help keep the cost down so that more could afford to get an Si model unit.

1 more question..
i upgraded to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ;D,
in transducer setting on 798cihd, do i need to stay with "COMPACT" Sidescan or change that to "QUAD BEAM" (something like that i cant remeber what it exactly says)...?
and should i also stay with 200/83?

I thinking of going for the same transducer upgrade for my 798.  Are the improvements worth the cost?  Do you have any screenshots you could post?  I'd be interested in hearing your comments on this.

Quad beam is a whole other critter - no Hi Def menu option - just set it to Compact Side Image  (cSI)
