Can a GPX file be removed from my 898c si later?
« on: March 27, 2011, 10:11:54 PM »
I have a GPX file for Voyageurs National Park that has 3 tracks totaling 236 points plus waypoints for hazards, campsites, houseboat sites, day use sites, resorts, etc. that totals over 600 waypoints. I'm concerned that it will be more clutter on the screen than I want, but won't know until I load it. Is there a way to remove it from the bird after it's loaded? I don't want to have to delete points individually. I'll be using a SD card to load the GPX file.

Ron,

You will have to load the GPX file into Hmminbird PC software first, then transfer them to the unit via SD card.

Deleting waypoints can be tricky if you already have some on there you want to save.  Best bet would be to use Humminbird PC to save different GPX files for certain areas, etc.  Then upload and download them to/from the unit as needed.  You will have to be very careful since you will have to delete all waypoints to clear the ones you dont want to use for that trip.  Just remeber to always export them from the unit if you have saved any new waypoints, or routes, etc.

Robert,
Thanks. After studying the manual some more, I think I understand your advice. There's no way to access a GPX file from the bird itself. I'll need to manage the waypoints in Humminbird PC using different GPX files. Now all I need to do is create several new GPX files out of the 600+ waypoints. I should have started this earlier, we're only a month from ice-out now.

Ron.
