Title: 788ci HD DI on the way
Post by: mck1975 on August 30, 2011, 12:46:58 PM
New kid also....after research and questioning RGecy to death, whom was very helpful, I ordered the 988ci HD DI, it should be here Wednesday. If anyone has any tips on installation and the best placement of the transducer on a 190 King Monark feel free to advise.

Sorry if this is an unnecessary thread, but I wasn't sure if asking install advise was appropriate on the other 788ci HD DI thread.

Congratulations on your purchase.
If you are going to mount your transducer on your transom, I'd recommend the following:
I would get one of those transducer mounting plates/pads for your boat.
It will probably take you some time to find the absolute best location for your transducer.
You may have to move it a few times.  With that plate, you only put two holes in your
transom.
Also, with your boat out of the water and the motor down at normal trim,
you need to look at your transducer from each side of the boat.
If you don't have a clear sight on each side, then the side-imaging
will not have a clear sight outwards.

Some things will have to be tested on the water, such as high speed
depth readings.  Some people have had to move their transducer up or
down several times before they were happy with the results.

Good Luck with your installation.

Would isolation board material work for the mounting plate?  The material is about an inch or better thick.
