New Helix 12 si KVD: software update problem
« on: July 31, 2016, 08:57:08 AM »
I just installed my new Helix 12 si and was trying to update the software to the latest version per HB instructions.  I reset everything to factory default then loaded my card with the software but nothing happens.  Either I did not have the update on the card or the unit is just not recognizing the software.
I am not able to download from HB directly onto the SD card so I am copying the file from my PC onto the card.  I suppose it is possible that I am not getting all the required files when doing this copy.
I tried with two different SD cards.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What are the size and types of the SD card?  Does the file size of the .bin file look correct if you look at it with file explorer?

Thanks for the reply Bob.
The file size looks fine at 45,399kb.  I tried two different cards...an older 512mb card I have used for 999 updates before and a 16GB card.  Both of these cards show the file  45,399kb  xxxyyyzzz.bin.
I did figure out how to directly download to an SD card and have a new 32GB card I will try in the morning (too hot this afternoon in North Texas).

If I am not successful tomorrow I'll call HB customer service.

Thanks again

Both those SD cards should have been fine.....a class 10 SD card is recommended, but I haven't heard of it making a difference with the software update.

Are the cards formatted Fat32?

I spoke with HB today about the software update.  Turns out  my unit was new enough that it already had the 1.210 software so it simply ignored the update.  The unit did recognize the SD card because it listed the card on the GPS diagnostic screen.

I got to try the unit on the water this morning with mixed results.  Screen is brilliant as it the SI but there is something wrong with the DI screen and several others.  HB gave me several things to try next time on the water to determine if the problem is in the unit or the TD or simply Operator error.

More after the on the water testing Wednesday .

Thanks for letting us know .... I think the units used to acknowledge the update was on the card, but tell you it wasn't necessary......Haven't tried that in a while though, so I'm not sure if it has changed.

Glad you got it figured out.  I have heard there may be some problems with DI and Autochart Live with that release.  I'm not sure if you could go to the prior release or not since Humminbird normally recommends not to go further backward than what came on the unit.......If you have more problems, you may call them and see if that is an option.
