998c si switching itself off
« on: February 10, 2013, 10:25:37 PM »
Hello....I updated the set a while ago (forget the version but it has the contour mode update)
Now when I scroll through the views when the set is running it turns itself off...this has happened a few times
Any ideas?
Cheers

First, figure out what software version your unit is running.
Does this happen while the unit is on your boat or are you powering your unit up in the house?
Are you using any sort of mapping card or memory card in the unit when this happens?

Hello Greg,

It happens when I'm on the boat, I'm using a navionics gold chart card, I'm not recording/mapping any information when it happens. As I say it happens when I'm scrolling through the views.
I'm presently away at work at the moment but will check which version I am running when I get home, I downloaded the update around May time last year, it had the countour mode fix/option to get rid of the water column if required

Cheers

There have been four software updates to the 998 units since then but I don’t know if any of them will help your unit or not.

See if this same thing happens without the Navionics card installed.

The 898 on the console was doing that. In the end what fixed it for me was wiring it straight to the cranking battery. I was losing voltage somehow at the fuse panel, a bad connection perhaps. Good luck :)
Just one last cast.
