The first thing to check is power supply and connections.  You should run on a dedicated sonar battery but not always necessary. Check all power connections including ground... Make sure the battery is fully charged.  Lets see where it goes from there....Chuck

You might also try bending the pins in the xducer connector just slightly to create better contact in the socket...

Again... I said bend "slightly"...

I wouldn’t bend any pins in the transducer connector as it’s a brands new unit.

Did you ever get this resolved?

I would suspect power problems but would try and find someone else with a Humminbird DI model unit that you could cross-test with to help figure out of the problem is your unit, your transducer or the input power to the unit.

New or not.   Sometimes you have to bend the pins to make a good contact.  that is because the pin and the female connector are not exactly matched in size...... Chuck

Not that we have seen on new units and not with the transducers.  An old unit I could see if the female sockets have been wallowed out but not a new unit.

I went to bass pro when I got off the water and they updated my unit to the newest software. I took it back out and tried it. It did fire the transducer. So I went back out the next day and it worked great for about a hour and then the temp started flashing. Everything else stayed working the whole day. I tried turning the graph off and then back on and then the graph wouldn't even recognize the temp gauge. The graph never shut off but it would read the 998's transducer.  I just went to bass pro and they gave me a new transducer so now I've gotta go put it on. Thanks for the input. I really hope this fixed the problem.

Went out today. Temp worked for 2.5 hours then quit reading again. It just flashes, everything else works great. I just don't understand how this is happening. If you shut it off and turn back on it doesn't even bring the box up on the graph. Now after it sits tonight it will work tomorrow for a lil while then repeats.

Something is definitely malfunctioning ...especially since BPS gave you a second xducer ...

Like Greg mentioned earlier ...do you have anyone you can cross test units with ...??
