Title: Transferring waypoints to SD card without GPS antenna
Post by: Ono Bill on April 17, 2021, 04:53:59 PM
Hi Y'all.  I'm a "Newbie" on the forum so please be gentle.  My boat turned upside down and sunk in my slip during Hurricane Sally, and in the process the external GPS antenna for the 987c SI was destroyed.  I'm trying to transfer the waypoints from my 987c SI to my new Helix 9, but can't get the "Nav" icon to appear.  Is it because there is no GPS antenna connected, and, if so, how can I get the "Nav" icon with it's drop down menu's to show up so I can transfer the waypoints to a SD Card?  I'd like to avoid the pricey GPS antenna required for the 987c since I will not be using it.  Can I get a cheap GPS antenna and just use it to allow the icon to appear?  I don't care about functionality- I just need access to the drop down menu under the "Nav" icon on the menu bar.
Thanks inn advance for any help you can provide.

Press the Menu button during initial boot up when you see the Humminbird logo screen  ...

A popup should show with 3 choices “Normal” - “Simulator” - “System Status”  ...

Cursor down to “Simulator” and then right cursor to activate the simulator feature  ...

Simulator allows function of the unit without a GPS fix or transducer attached  ...

I tried using the "Simulator" function as mentioned in the first reply, but nothing was transferred to the SD Card.  It took several tries with different cards (including some new, unformatted cards).  The 987 indicated that the transfer was completed, but when I looked at the SD Card on my PC, it showed an empty file.  Am I doing something wrong?

The used one was 16 GB, the new one was 64 GB.  Am travelling right now, I have a new 32 GB Card that I will try when I get back.  Thanks for your help.

Tried the new, unformatted SD Card ( 32MB).  The 987 downloaded to the card and the card uploaded to the Helix 9 without a hitch.  I can view the waypoints on both my PC (Humminbird PC), and the Helix 9.  Thank VERY MUCH for the help!
