Your 998 unit is running newer software than what the operations manual was written for.  Try doing this to export your Nav Data:
 - Press the MENU button twice and go to the “Waypoints, Routes, tracks” menu.
 - Open this menu by using the Right Arrow.
 - Scroll up to “Options” and open it using the Right Arrow.
 - Select “Select All and…” and use the Right Arrow to open this submenu.
 - Select “Export” and use the Right Arrow to activate this menu.

To import Nav Data you will find out that you now have to install the memory card after the unit is up and running (not before you turned it on as before you updated the software).

ok, that worked, thank you for info, so that brings up two questions

1 kind of frustrating having out of date manual on less than year old unit, does HB offer current one showing changes?

2 is that how I export data to provide to Navionics?

ok, went to link here for manuals, latest version is from 2010 for 998.

went to HB site, there is a manual(531743-1EN_B) that does not match the numbers on my manual(531743-2EN_B) but it still shows the same Nav menu explanation I have in my manual.  and it doesn't say the date of that manual, if it is newer or older than mine. would guess from the numbers mine is newer than one on HB site.

 this is frustrating

rpmjr,
1 No we do not have an operations manual that has all of the current software changes in it.  Your best option would be to look at the 999 unit’s manual and see what they say for any new menu items or changes.
2 I don’t know.  What data does Navionics need?  The procedure I posted is for waypoints, routes and tracks.  If Navionics needs tracks then yes it will work.  If they need Sonar Recordings (I think this is what they want) then no it will not provide the data that they need.  Sonar Recordings are written to the SD memory card when you are making the Sonar Recording.

Your manual is newer (not sure why the on-line one has not been updated).
