I just received my 798c SI and installed it in the boat. Today I tried to update the software from version 4.51 (came w/ unit) to version 4.780 which i downloaded to my SD card. I followed directions per page 78 of manual. Shut unit of, installed card and turned unit back on. It prompted to install update, yes, abort, no. It then proceeded to flash screen stating it was updating and do not interrupt. This went on for over 1 hour. Finally I shut unit down, removed card and started unit. It stated that it had original 4.51 version in unit. I tried same procedure 2 other times w/ same result. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Any help would be appreciated.

Catman16,
What size SD card is this? If I is a 2GB or smaller try reformatting it on your computer and download the 4.780 software update file to it again. Make sure that this is a new copy of the update file from the web site and not just a copy off your computer. The file name should be M798C.4_780.bin
If you have an internal GPS version unit than let us know as it requires a different software update file.

The card is 1GB. Before I copied to the card, I formatted the card. I will try it again as you suggested. I do have the correct update.

Try inserting the card after the unit is powered on! This phenomenon is not quite understood, but it happens on some units.
Power on the unit.
Restore the defaults.
Insert the SD card with the update on it.
Follow prompts, Yes you want to update and No you do not want to abort.
The update should take less than 15-20 seconds.
You will get a green box at the end saying update sucessfull and the unit will reboot.
Remove the SD card.
Restore the defaults again!
And your done!
Let us know if this helps.

Thanks Rob, I just did what you said and it worked perfectly. Only took about 15 seconds. So much for written instructions from HB!!!
