I have not updated my 1197 in several years now. Last time I went to do it HB site had lost my registration info and I never got around to it. I see lots of talk of issues and bugs. Curious if this ever got worked out? By the looks of my folder I have 5.200 as latest bin file.
Is there a way to obtain the latest software without logging serial number on the HB site? My unit is in the storage garage and I apparently do not have the serial number logged anywhere but the HB site years back.

Unless you need to network the 1197 with a newer unit, I would recommend going to version 6.310. It is pretty bullet proof and there are no imaging problems with this release. There are some imaging issues with any release higher than that and the 1197 will not be getting any more updates.
6.310 is available in the download section of this forum.

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like that is what I need. I've been through the forum and seen discussion about various versions but have not seen the actual download.

FYI I did go and find my serial number, but the HB site says it is invalid...
Poked around the download section and eventualy figured out where the bins had been stored. I have 6.310 downloaded and now will copy to a blank SD card.
Question regarding restore defaults: This means that I lose all of my customization so I probably should take some snapshots of my settings?

Restore Defaults sets the unit back to factory settings ...all your custom settings will default back to factory ...
Restore Defaults does not erase waypoints BTW ...

Thanks, that's kind of what I figured. Would be nice if they would allow you to save a config file and reload after update.

ONIX, ION, and SOLIX do allow saving settings ...But not the core HELIX or numbered series units unfortunately ...

Good to know. I'm looking that way eventually. Need to determine what will fit on dash top of 2018 Lund with full windshield like my 1197.
I did get my unit updated and think that I restored most of my settings. Would be easier if a guy could get each individual drop down on one screen shot.
