798/778 interlink question
« on: January 12, 2012, 07:11:48 PM »
798ci SI on the console, 778c on the bow.  I'm thinking of adding an interlink to share waypoints.  I'll be using the internal GPS on the 798.

My question is, since maps are not shared, what kind of output will I see on the 778c on the bow?  Is there any kind of map displayed, or just a blank screen with visible waypoints?

Thanks,  Gary

gt,
If you are still planning on InterLinking both of these units; make sure and update the software on both units before you connect either one up to the InterLink.  It is also a good idea to remove the Nav Data (Waypoints, Tracks and Routes) before doing so.  You can save these on your computer using the HumminbirdPC program and than upload them to an SD card after you are done and re-install them in the 798c Si unit.

Thanks Greg.  Software is up to the latest on both, and I currently have no waypoints I can't afford to lose.  Still wondering if it will be beneficial to me, for my style of fishing.  Before I set this up though, I'm looking to get my vhf/rf interference resolved.  I get terrible feedback on my handheld vhf from both units.  Looking to install a fixed mount vhf also, but not if I can't resolve the feedback.  I read in another thread that you guys can fix it, but the units gotta go back.  Gonna call customer support in the next couple days and see.  Both units are out of warranty, so the fix might prove expensive though.

Thanks for the feedback,

Gary
