NMEA 2K - 5 Port questions
« on: August 31, 2012, 09:44:01 PM »
I want to connect my  998 to NMEA 2K to view engine data from 150 Evinrude Etec HO to my console sounder.
I already have the engine interface and backbone set up connected from previous Lowrance system.
I have  998 console sounder and a 958 bow sounder already linked.
So........
Do I need a 5 port ethernet switch or does the sounder end of the NMEA 2k system connect to the unit in the connections near power, trandsducer or via the ethernet port (which is already full with the connection from the 958)

You motor will have to be connected to the Humminbird system by using another Ethernet accessory (AS-ETH-NMEA2K  http://store.humminbird.com/products/519201/AS_ETH_NMEA2K ).

If your 958c is linked by the Ethernet connection already (which I would recommend if it isn’t), then you will have to use the 5-port Ethernet Switch (AS-ETH-5PS  http://store.humminbird.com/products/519199/AS_ETH_5PS ) as you will need the additional Ethernet connection to do this.

Thanks Greg,

Am I right in thinking, that the backbone cable will plug straight into the AS-ETH-NMEA2K system and then share the 5 port ethernet switch with the lead from the bow mounted 958 sounder.

I will need another ethernet cable to connect from the 5 port switch to the console sounder, hence connecting  the bow and console sounders via the the 5 port switch.?????????

Yes lango73, the AS-ETH-NMEA2K plugs into the NMEA 2000 backbone.  Our NMEA2K device also plugs into the AS-ETH-5PS Ethernet Switch and has an attached cable to do this with.  You will have to supply the cable to connect the our NMEA2K device to the NMEA 2000 backbone.

If your Humminbird units are Ethernet connected now, than yes you will need one additional Ethernet connection cables.  If they are not currently Ethernet connected than you will need two of the Ethernet connection cables.
