ALL SI Models - Trolling motor control
« on: May 28, 2012, 04:29:00 PM »
Model:
ALL SI Models
Suggested Upgrade:
Trolling motor control
Explanation:
I have a si unit and a minn Kota I pilot on a 24 ft cc. I would like to be able to link both units, then record a route or draw a route on my gps then send the route to my trolling motor. I would also like to tag a waypoint and tell the trolling motor to go to the waypoint. Save trolling grids on my humminbird and send to my I pilot.

Then I would like to add the cannon down riggers and record routes that will automtically raise my lures over trees I have marked in my route.

I know that is a lot to ask far for a weekend warrior, but I am sure guides would eat that up.

I'll definitely 2nd the I-pilot interface....this plus the 360 would put Humminbird WAY ahead of the competition.

Leeb, I have a I-Pilot and downriggers also. The interface of the I-Pilot and the Humminbird SI unit would be the coolest thing sense hot water!
AS it is I per-run a area marking waypoints on the I-Pilot and the 1198 then program the downriggers. Some where I hope to get some fishing in!

Someday Humminbird and Minn Kota will think up a interface, Nope wont happen both are owned by the same parent company!! Just think interoffice communcation what a concept.

Oh yea.
People in hell want ice water. :)

You're talking about some pretty sophisticated communications.
Processors, memory, and new code will have to be boosted on everything.
Then TESTED, and TESTED, and TESTED again.

Humminbird has a hard enough time just putting out software upgrades that
don't mess up the machines.

Well if HB makes it? You know who will do the real testing and debuging!

This feature would be really great for SAR operations...

Hate to disagree but I dont see this a help in SAR. Sonar scans are best if the operator of the boat is compenent in driving a course as defined by the needs of the search and layout of the lake.

My thoughts.

Hi,

Think this was a misunderstanding, I would find it useful within SAR context not for Scanning but for veryfying targets with ROV or drop cam. This could simplify this process since I would expect not to use a anchor anymore or somebody taking care the boat does not move while ROV is deployed.
Not the Feature that will change the world but at least nice to have...

thanks Flo, I guess we need to type a book to get our thoughts collected.   ;D

I think in context that it may be a good idea for HB to look at especially for fishermen...

Ask and I shall recieve!!!  ;D I see that the I-pilot link is now available.  I have emailed Minn-kota to see what it takes to upgrade my current riptide st ipilot to the new ipilot link.  I will also need Lake Master Digital Maps (not available on my lake Smith Mountain Lake VA).  So I have sent a request to Lake Master to provide coverage on my Lake.  Next the Humminbird compatable units show the 798 ci si HD----I do not have the HD----So will my Humminbird work?

Time to start saving up some more MONEY.

The I-Pilot link utilizes the units ethernet port for connectivity to the Humminbird unit.......The non-HD 798 does not have an ethernet port.
The I-Pilot link will work without the Lakemaster chip.....you just won't have the FOLLOW THE CONTOUR feature.

Bob I really want the contour feature.  I like to troll for striped bass.  In the spring with planer boards set out I will not have to worry about tending them for the shore line any longer.  I like having the extra help from technology when trying to control a 24 ft center console close to shore and fishing.

Looks like a great excuse to upgrade to the 1198.

Now I need to figure out if my yamaha 300 HPDI will link up for all the gauges also.

I dont mind paying to upgrade my Humminbird but I just got the Ipilot before the Link system came out.

I don't think you will regret getting an 1198 ..... I have an I_Pilot that's just over a year old also......guess I'm gonna have to sell it to a Lowrance guy so I can upgrade. >:D
