Forum proposed seminar:
Folks, we are looking into hosting a seminar for the Humminbird products.
Wilmington, NC or Charleston, SC are two of the sites we feel might be reasonable for you folks.
This seminar will cover the Humminbird products and supportive items such as PC's, Fishing, Search and Recovery and OEM software viewers.
Right now this is planning phase an we are looking at what interest level there might be.
What we have looked at so far is a morning introduction of products (maybe 2 hours) and then breakout sessions the rest of the time. For these, we are considering offering several at staggered times so you could attend more than one breakout session.
What we would like is for you all to respond back with your ideas, your interest and comments.
The planned date is not set but we are thinking early March.
Please add your comments to append to this thread. You can also send PM to Rgecy and cc: Sonar2000.
If this is to become a viable seminar we will probably need some volunteer help with logistics the date of the seminar.
Please think this over and let us know asap your thoughts...

Looks like something I would like to attend if in the Charleston area

This seminar will include hands on with a tablefull of units.
We are planning on loading recordings for playback as well as the simulator mode.
You can even bring a recording for review on both the playback or the external PV viewers.

I know there are only a handful of users here from the Soth East US, but really just looking for any ideas you guys would think would be informative and usefull at a seminar in general.
Chuck and I have been discussing this for some time and kind of have some ideas on what will be discussed:
Basic Side imaging Seminar - principles, image interpretation ect
Software Seminar - Humminbird PC, DRDepth, and other 3rd party apps
SAR Seminar - SI in SAR applications, planning and conducting an effective Search using HB Side Imaging
Maybe an installation demonstration on a Bass Boat
Any thoughts or suggestions from you guys?
Thanks,
Robert

I would like to be able to learn more using it with my PC and running recordings in Google Earth.
Creating plans at home then transferring the information via
weighpoints to the unit.
Tricks for manageing weighpoints for different areas
Learing new ways to utilize the unit (things I haven't thought of)
Sorry for the rambling but just some thoughts of things I would like to learn.

Great Terry, this is what we are looking for in your replies.
Adding a bit to Robert's posting;
Anyone with recording they would like to share for use in the hands on playbacks and recording viewers please contact me via
e-mail for instruction on how to get the recordings to me...
Any recording used will remain with the seminar team (Robert & Chuck) andf will not be distributed to any one else.
As Robert said the initial group may be small, but if successful we plan on expanding the seminars and geographic location.

I would also include a segment on some of the accessories and also one on connecting everything as well.
Maybe the Ethernet software will be out by than and this could be included too.
-
Greg,.....you could come and help lecture. chuck

Something else to consider is the cost.
We are not doing this as a monetary gain for us. What will determine the seminar cost is what it will cost us to make it happen.
So one up front issue is how many will attend. This basically will determine the cost.
If anyone is interersted in attending let us know so we can begin to develope a list and determine cost.

I thought about it Chuck! ;D
-
You better do more than think. ;D.... ::)....... :D
Chuck
-
We would cover your cost! Who better to answer questions than "THE MAN" himself!
I need to get Fuzzy to call me back though so we can set a date!
Robert
-
OK, so far I only have a response from Terry......chuck
-
Fuzzy will be there? I’ll have to tell my boss that this is a must attend event than! Fuzzy is a very entertaining person to say the least!
I hear you Chuck, but there is no way I’m getting in that plane! :o
-
Yes,,,,I know how you feel about flying.
Not even if we get you a personal stewardess....... ;D... ;).... :'(
You could take your company boat around the waterway....

UPDATE:
Only two persons of interest.
We will need about 25 to really make this happen..
Chuck
-
Maybe you could move it to Illinois ;D
-
It would be a 12 Hr drive each way for me. :'(
-
It's 12 hours each way for me also.
How about making a video and posting on You Tube?
-
We might consider a video, but the main part of the seminar is the hands on. Also the length of the sessions will be far longer than a simple youtube video...
Good ideas though...
It would be nice if we had a sponsor to fund multiple seminars across the country.
Maybe this is why there are not seminars like we want to do here...
Anyway, if we can make the SC one happen we will..
Thanks guys....

I have been contemplating doing the same program somewhere in the midwest, and Chuck or/and Robert were going to get asked if it would be possible to do the presentation, along with some other midwest Humminbird sponsors. I truly think that there is a need for a SAR seminar locally, with the amount of fire and rescue teams gearing up with Humminbird. I have personally helped 3 teams with their setups and put on one seminar to date for a fire and rescue team in central Iowa. Our local dive team recently purchased a 1197 and I have been in contact with them also. I think that from a funding standpoint, the SAR angle looks the best route.
One thing I have found out with SAR teams, is that typically, they dont have a avid fisherman on the squad, and there is no way that they will get proficient without time on the water learning to use the equipment.
I was thinking along the same lines as you as far as presentations.
One option (for both a presenter and the hands on units) that may be available, is Dave Poort from OEM , has a hands on presentation where he typically brings 25 units . I attended one of his seminars 2 years ago, and wil be attending another one next week.
I think there are tremendous things happening with Dr Depth mapping software also, that could/would be a seminar all by itself. WarrenMn is very versed with this program and has been instrumental in getting alot of the Humminbird details worked out with Per.
I would be interested in attending, but not in SC or GA. Sorry. But, I bet if you do it, it will be a full house, even with charging to cover expenses. If I was to organize a seminar, there would also have to be a charge, so youre thinking along the same lines as I am.
-
exactly our goal here. Robert do you think we can get this guy to help us if we can show the interest (numbers attending)
We had thought several guest speakers with Robert handling the fishing and Chuck handling the SAR breakouts..
You are right also with the fire an dLE guys and their equipment. We need to shorten their learning curve and make them productive on the water...
Chuck
Com on down RD....and get out of the snow...hehe
-
chuck,
we have 59 pre registered for our seminar on the 9th. This of course is sponsored by Soo Sports, and is a free to attend. Even though I am farily well versed with my "bird", i would definitely consider a seminar or conference that had an entry fee if I thought the content would be beneficial to me.
-
Unless we were able to get a sponsor, we would have to charge to cover expenses...
I wish we had a dealer or sport center who would do this for us...
I know there is a lot of good information to come out of this type of seminar and all would understand the system and the units a whole lot more.....these birds are great. using them to get the most out is the hard part...seminars help greatly with this learning...especially hands on...let uys know how yours goes...
We still have some time and will wait and see what happens.

I am on Lake Hartwell Ga. and will go to the gathering when u set the date & location!

Thanks Terry....that is three now unless Robert has some others...
Will keep the thread updated.

Chuck:; Is this still in the works? If so count me in! Roddy
-
Roddy, I dont think we will make this happen. Not enough interest. It will probably take about 30 people to make it happen.
Waiting on the pics from the towfish. ;D :)

Hi Chuck,
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but if you decide to give this another try, count me in. I'd also like to put in a plug for hosting it here in Morehead City / Beaufort / Atlantic Beach, NC. The hotels here are hungry for business so have given us some great rates for conferences here in the past and we have tons of charter boats available and dozens of wrecks / rivers / estuaries, etc. to explore within close proximity. Can't think of a better place to try out what HB can do. I've also got a few contacts at the local PD's and FD's who may be interested in attending as well.

Thanks, we may try for another shot on this yet...It is all a matter of timing...
