What version did the unit come with?

Do you need any of the new features that the new update offers?  Are you having any issues with the current version?

I havn't even installed it yet.
I did just check, the firmware is 6.250

The only feature I have read about that sounded interesting was something  "casting distance" from waypoints.
I thought I might mark boulders around where I fish and create a safety zone away from them ;-)

I am trying to play devils advocate  >:D here!  You bring up a good reason to do the upgrade.  Personally, I would try the existing software out on the water first.  Then do the update and see if it makes that much of a difference.  You can always go back.

Before you try to go out and fish, I do recommend that you spend time out on the water just scanning, making recordings, and working with the settings, etc.  By making recordings you can come home and play them back on the unit, adjust settings, make some snapshots, etc.

That brings up a good point I would like to ask..
If I record on the water with totally bogus settings...
When I get it home  and play it back,, can I clean up the recording and see what settings are wrong?

Yes, you can manipulate some settings, even create waypoints and snapshots during playback.
