Speed/Temp on 899
« on: September 10, 2015, 05:11:12 PM »
I am using the speed/temp sensor from my 787 on my new 899. H'bird said I needed the AS T Y cable for it to work. I bought it and hooked it all up but I am getting the "UNCONNECTED" message on speed/temp during diagnostic.  Is there also a setting I need to change?  I can't find anything in the owners manual and have been through the advanced menus with no luck.  Did I get a bad cable?  It apperas the transducer AND speed/temp run through the AS T Y and into the unit.  The transducer works fine...

The AS T Y is simply disconnecting the temp channel going to the temp probe in the xducer ... And re-routing that temp channel to the TS W ...

It shouldn't need any settings changes ...

If you're getting a temp reading in one of the Readout boxes ... This should be the temp from the TS W ...

if you are getting a temp reading ... Hold your thumb on the metal temp probe to see if the temp reading rises ...

Thanks.  I'm really more concerned with speed though.  The 899 uses GPS speed.  I need speed through water with a current as I fish Walleye in the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers.  How do I determine if it is giving me GPS speed or speed through water with the speed/temp sensor?  The fact that the DIAG. view shows SPEED "UNCONNECTED" is my issue.

Now you comment makes me even more confused. Does it do the same with speed? If this is true then I may be getting a temp reading through the xducer and speed through GPS and either the cable is bad or my new (last year) speed/temp sensor is bad.  What do I need to do?

I may have mis-spoke ... That temp channel in the AS T Y looks to be wired to a different pin than the normal temp pin in the xducer cable connector ...
-----

Look under the Setup tab in the Main Menu System for "Select Readouts" ... and see if you have options for "Aux Temperature" and "Water Speed" ...

According to the operators manual ... You can change Readout boxes 1-5 in sonar views ...but can only change Readout Box 1 in Chart views ...

Post back if you don't have Readout Box selections for "Aux Temp" and "Water Speed" ...

It may be a bad AS T Y or temp/speed accessory ...

Also, is the temp/speed accessory you have the TS W ...??

I believe it is.  I have a half dozen emails with H'bird confirming it should work fine with the extra cable. I will check for the aux temp and water speed in the morning.
