More Questions With My 898
« on: April 05, 2010, 01:26:11 PM »
The 898 is installed and the old 525 has been moved to the front, so now Iam learning (slowly!) the 898, and I have a few questions:

Can the simulator be used out of the water with the transducer connected?  Iam unclear about this according to what I have read in the manual.

Since I have a SD card can I just use that to transfer information from the HB to the PC and vise versa?  Then I would not have to buy the cable with the battery pack.

I have the Navionics card, how do I know that it is being read by the Bird and what Iam seeing is the Navionics?  It does not really tell you in anyway that I can tell.

Sorry for all of the questions,  I hope they are not too annoying because Iam sure that I will have more!

Thanks again-Arlo

yes you can run the simulator.        If you disconnect all the devices you can also run the demo mode.

Yes you can run the simulator with the transducer connected but you will have to force the unit into the simulator mode to do so.  If all you want to do is practice and play (and not save any menu settings or waypoints) than it would be best if you only connected the power to the unit and just turned it on.  This would put the unit in the demo-simulator mode where no settings are saved (and it will rest itself two minutes after the last button is pressed).
