Raymarine s1000 autopilot to 858; unexpected turned
« on: August 20, 2013, 03:31:14 PM »
Hello all, my first post here, but seems to be a wealth of information. I had the autopilot installed, so I'm unsure of the exact connections, so bear with me.....I believe they're hooked to the nmea 183 output on the GPS puck pigtail.

Connected to a Humminbird 858 c

AP works great 98% of the time. Problem is every 20-40 minutes it will turn hard to port without warning. This has happened at both high and low speeds , and traveling in pilot and track mode. Not a big deal except when trolling, doing something else or fighting a fish. Tangled lines!

I wrote Raymarine and they said when the AP does that its searching for direction input. I have never shown a loss of COG or GPS signal. Any ideas on this? Timing is not consistent, thought maybe the plotter was doing something on a timed basis. I've seen this problem in other topics, the "crazy Ivan". I'm just not gonna accept this as normal.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

I have been trying to figure this out all over the net. Raymarine has zero interest in helping me. Someone on another forum suggested that the chartplotter may be resetting the nmea output to the autopilot......does this make any sense?

Thanks !
