Navionics card
« on: April 28, 2013, 09:31:01 AM »

Has anyone else had any issues with their map card going blank?

I have a Navionics hotmaps east premium that went dumb... The charts would not load on my 798 SI unit while out fishing.. I get home,, and the card shows 1.83 GB of 1.83 GB free..

I have Navionics PC app installed,, so I got the card loaded back again,, and it's now showing charts again in the 798..

The card is UNLOCKED.. Question is,, while in the unit,, should I have the card locked so the unit can't possibly erase it again?? Is there any data saved on the card?? I have all my waypoints saved showing up even when the card is not installed..

Anyone ever have this happen?

It sounds like your card came unseated.  Did you try to re-seat it when it was not working?  I keep my cards locked to make sure I do not accidentally try to record on them, these cards are touchy and modifications could corrupt the card.

I took it out and swapped positions in the fish finder, tried restarting, etc..

I was shocked when I installed it into the PC and it was showing no volume of info(the card now shows roughly 500 MB of free space after the recovery where yesterday it showed 1.83 GB when it was not working),, but there were still folders on the map card?

Only thing I can think,, is maybe some how the sounder tried recording onto the map card,,, as I have fished the last couple of times without a card for recording,, but I have fished area's that were not supported by the map card(fishing lakes not charted, and fishing in rivers and swamps)..

I think I will be locking my card from here on out.. That is too expensive of a card to take the chances on it being erased.. Just glad I was able to recover it from the Navionics software/website..

Try this, hope it helps! It is straight from Navionics customer service.

If your Navionics card is no longer working after doing the Freshest Data update, please follow these instructions to resolve the issue:

Insert your Navionics card into the card reader on your computer.
Open the folder to view the files.
Go into “Navionic > Charts”
Delete the “UGC” folder.
Also, delete the files within this folder with the following file extensions (.ugc, .uk, .ck)
Perform the Freshest Data Update again. Please only select the “Nautical Charts” option, and disable the “Community Edits” option.

If you need additional information, please do not hesitate to ask.
