Topic: Navionics sd card

I guess the Navionics software card must be in the HB unit all the time and the data is not downloaded
and stored in the unit.  Is this correct?  thanks in advance

Map cards are not loaded into the unit...... only pieces of them relative to the position... This is because of the large file size and the smaller memory or usable area of memory for the mapping protion.  The map loads sections using paging functions.
Which is why on some units you see the screen freeze at times during a page change.. Kinda of like recording screens during the write time to the sd card......

Thanks Chuck.  Do you know if waypoints are stored on the Navionics card and therefore would not show until the Navionics card is put back in the unit?

I would also add that the mapping card companies would not want your unit to be able to load the mapping data off the mapping cards so that they can sell you two mapping cards instead of just the one.

Waypoints, tracks and routes are all saved to the unit’s internal memory.  You can send a copy of them to an SD memory card if you want to but this is only done for transferring and saving to a computer or to share with another unit.  Any waypoints you marked with the unit should show whether the Navionics mapping card is installed or not.

Mapping cards may or may not let you write to them. If write is allowed it will not be in the map file but on unused space left on the card. You can check this by viewing the card on windows and looking at the spacew on the card. Usually a round circle with color showing the used portion. You can then try to saver data to the card and if successful you will see the space decrease. Also you casn use a computer and view the files on the card. ( Well for some map cards anyway.)

I think Johnson Outdoors owns navionics or at least a major part of the stock. just as JO owns humminbird.

OK, I knew there was some relationship but did not know how deep. These stockholder groups buy and sell stock companies as the market share cost increases or decreases. Which is probably a good reason we dont let the stockholders run a company. (hmmmm or do they)
Remember Navico bought Lowrance..
I guess at our level on the ladder we will not get to vote on any of this..

I thought this to be interesting.  Now maybe in the future we can do this for sonar/gps unitys..

Or we put sonar on these ipods or other new electronic hand devices.
