I have a 998c SI with v6.180 and my son has the same unit with 6.490. His DI is much clearer than mine. He swears it's 6.490 making the images so much clearer. We have swapped units and his is still clearer in my boat and mine not so much in his. Settings don't seem to be able to get mine as clear as his. This leads me to believe he may be right. Was there anything in 6.490 that would make a difference in DI? What are the differences between 6.180 & 6.490? I looked for the 6.490 update but I can't seem to find it. Any ideas where I could find it? Thanks in advance.

Then you can download the latest software for your unit.

N9Phil, Thanks for the reply. I have a stand alone unit with nothing else linked to it nor do I plan on adding anything to it in the future. I have the unit registered with Humminbird but the update they are offering is the current one (7 something) and I really don't want to do the whole jigging mode off deal to correct the 83khz pixelation problems. I would like to go no farther than 6.490. Thanks though.

In your case 6.49 would be the best release. I thought it was in the download section on here, but I looked and didn't see it.

Is the update for the HD good for my non HD model as well?
Do you know what the difference is from 6.180 to 6.490 by any chance?

The HD and Non-HD use the same software ..... It is a hardware difference between the 2 units, the software is the same .....Without doing some research, I don't remember what was added between 6.18 and 6.49..... but I do know that 6.49 is as bullet proof as the software got for the 98 series.

So i take it you would recommend going to 6.49? I guess I will give it a shot then. I've updated before so I know I can do it but I'm still a little uneasy with it. I'm not the techiest guy in the world and it's been quite a while. I will do some research and give it a shot. I think I saw 6.18 in the download section so I can always go back right? Thanks again.

Yes, you can go back if you want, as long as the release isn't older than what came with your unit.
6.49 was the last solid release before they made major changes that caused a LOT of problems that they spent a long time fixing.... I would definitely recommend 6.49.
