Title: Fish over board
Post by: Rüdiger on June 30, 2012, 03:18:54 PM
Since I am alone in the boat, I needed a solution that allows Towfish to have handed to water.
A bipod with cable pulley at the stern of the boat keeps the remains of fish in each case, behind the engine and thus out of reach of the voracious propeller. Thus, the end of each scan line Towfish raised and lowered again after the turn.

Towfisher and how you do it? :-\

Looks good. Exactly what i want as well. My concerns is that the cable will get broken when being pulled over the pulley. Do you also have an ethernet cable to the fish?

That looks as a very clever system. I suppose you can lift the fish up to the pulley and then swing the 'crane' backwards to get the fish over the outboard engine and into the boat? My 'system' is not that advanced, in my smaller boat I use a fixed wood plank with a pulley. The plank sticks out horizontally behind the motor and I need a stick to press the cables with the towfish from the pulley. A bit clumsy, but it works.

On my large boat I simply deploy the towfish from the side of the boat. When towing the cable is routed one turn around a pulpit post at the starboard side and secured to the deck with a clam cleat. I use a PVC coated steel wire for towing and the ethernet cable is just attached to the wire.

Hi Daniel

No, I am currently using three extension cable of HB and I have chosen for the role of an extra-large diameter in order to increase the contact surface for the cable.

Okay.
Is the tube around the cable like an hollow waterski rope?

Yes, but only the first 6m, 30m further reinforced with a rope.
