Title: 798c SI upgrades

I purchased a 798c SI last year ( April 2010)  and haven't done any upgrades to it ..

I am interested in the down imaging ( DI ) ..

Do I have to load an earlier upgrade first ( w DI ),  then the newest one ( that fixes some of the bugs ) ?

Or

Is the DI in all the upgrades after the introduction of DI in previous upgrade versions ?

Thanks for all your  help and information in advance ..

A Newbie needs to know ..

I was told today by humminbird that as long as you update with the newest it carries all the past upgrades with it if that makes sense. In other words no you dont have to get the past updates just the newest.  But beware both my units locked up today and have to be sent to humminbird to get fixed becuase I updated with the new up date. not sure if its the same update as your unit.

Each S/W release I've seen has always been a complete release.  No need to load a prior version.  I have a 798ci from 4/2009.  Outside of the latest release 5.4, I have upgraded soon after it was available.   The 5.4 release has had a number of issue comments and does not provide me any more functionality than 5.2.   I have decided to wait on 5.4.   I do recommend 5.2 for the additional SI capability.  You can turn on distance grid lines and run in a mode that doesn't waste space for the trawth below the boat.

Thanks I took your advice and loaded 5.2 .. 

No issues and all is working fine .. I just have to test on the water ..  Hopefully this weekend ...

I am after the DI capabilities ..  Love the SI, just thought DI would add to my fishing tech ..

Hey,

I thought that I was loading software version 5.210 on my BIRD ..

My mistake, I loaded version -- M798C.4_780.bin ---  from this site ..

I am looking for the DI upgrade ... 

Should I load 5.210 ?
If so, were do I find it ?  I cannot find it on this site ..

HumminBird only gives me 5.450 when I try and get an update from them ..
I understand that there is lots of trouble with 798 locking up with this upgrade (5.4)

The Down Imaging sonar was added in software version 4.780.

I just added the 5.210 software to the 798c download section.

That is the one I have been looking for ..  I was told, 5.2 has some improvements from the earlier versions .. 8) 8)
