597 ci hd di issue
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:20:08 PM »
Hey guys, went fishing today and had my HB 597 really screw up. I would read the bottom just fine then it would beep and show 597335 depth, then 1.7 ft then would start beeping and going nuts. I got it to work for about 15 mins of my entire trip by going to advanced menu options and resetting everything to default setup.
After that it just kept reading random numbers and beeping, then the buttons would quit working. I checked the power source and made sure the connections were tight and clean, removed the head unit and checked those connections then tried to re-power my unit back up. No Go! It read a wide number of depths and then quit reading any depths at all. I did have the unit on saltwater deep mode as I was fishing in about 350 to 400 ft of salt water.
GPS seemed to function fine so at least i knew how fast I was trolling but never got any decent readings from the sounder. What options do I have? I don't have another transducer so cannot swap that out. Power was clean and constant all the way to the head unit and all wires seem to be in fine shape. I am at a loss......... and bummed that there was no way to read depths or fishes in those depths.

You can try cross-testing with someone else who is running a Humminbird DI model unit.  That will tell you if the problem is on your boat or in the unit itself.  If you cannot do that, call the Humminbird Customer Resource Center folks about getting your 597ci HD DI unit and transducer in to the factory to be tested and fixed.

Just for everyones info, I sent the head unit and the transducer in for testing. the transducer was found not working and I got a new one. The turn around time was fantastic and customer service was very good.
Thanks greg for your help and thanks HB for making it right!
