Title: IPilot Link
Post by: Goosedwnr on April 10, 2014, 05:27:02 PM
I have a question on recording an ITrack on the Ipilot Link.  I am not really sure on how it is suppose to work, but from what I understand is you should be able to record an ITrack with using the big motor.  This would come in very handy if I wanted to motor through the area while side imaging to see where the fish may be holding while recording my ITrack.  The only way I could get this to work was to deploy the TM and keep it up out of the water while motoring with the big motor.  Is this what you guys are doing or am I missing something?  As far as I can tell I cannot record an ITrack unless the TM is deployed.  Even when I was recording an Itrack this way I would have the system say IPilot Disconnected and I would lose my ITrack in some cases.  The set-up I have is a Terrova IPilot Link, 1198c SI (Console) running 6.490 and a 998 HD SI (Bow) running 6.490 as well, linked through the 5 port Ethernet.  I tried to figure it out last year in a "Trial by Fire" scenario, but I will be going back through the manual and looking at some YouTube Videos to see if anyone else had this problem.  I am not much for reading the Manual right away, but if I get stumped and no one else seems to be having the same problem I will be forced to look it up in the Manual.  Any ideas?

Does this help?

Gimp,

Thanks but it does not help.  Jason is showing how to build routes through creating waypoints on the 1198.  I am asking about using the Outboard with the trolling motor stored and recording an Itrack at a higher speed to go back and follow with the trolling motor.

You have to get the current updates to use the ipilot link. Bob

I checked out the manual, very basic instructions. Does not mention whether the TM need to be deployed. It shows you need to hit the menu button twice, go to accesories, go to Itrack and right click to record. That works with the TM deployed. I will have to mess around with it more but I think I have it figured out. I think that if you deploy the TM once before trying to record the itrack, the control unit recognizes that there is an IPilot link connected and will work from then on, even when you store the TM. I will have to do more testing.

i have recorded a track many times with the trolling motor in the stowed position. Im not sure how fast you could really go to have it record correctly, as i have normally just gone a little faster than idle, but seeing how you stated you would want to side scan while recording you shouldn't be moving too fast in that case.

If you have the Link, you should be able to record/create a track on your console unit and transfer it.......You do need to get the software updated on your units though.  The link isn't doing you any good at 6.49.
Are you holding out upgrading for the 2D fix?

Bob, I have since updated software to the latest version on all the units, including the ILink. We'll see if this helps.

I have the same issue (998c)with the Itrack recording in the stored position. I have the latest software 7.67. I noticed that if I go to the screen that you review waypoints, routes etc. I  can start a new ITRACK and it will begin recording, then I go to a regular navigation screen, I see the recording going in the top middle of the screen and if I select menu, I have the option to stop it. All of this with the TM stored and never deployed even once. But the only way I can get the menu to show up is as you say, deploy it once and then I can pick it up in the accessory screen, even after it is deployed.
