997C Ice Fishing or using side scan while standing still
« on: February 24, 2010, 10:43:16 PM »
If you don't mind bringing your finder out in cold weather, I've found it helpful for locating fish/watching fish while ice fishing. I've mounted the transducer and GPS sensor to a 1x2 piece of wood about 3 feet long. I drill a hole through the ice and stick the transducer down below the bottom of the ice and clamp the 1x2 to a bucket to hold it steady. You can slowly rotate the transducer to sweep 360° or just let it sit still and wait for the fish to swim by. The fish will appear and disappear. This image is of a large school of fish swimming by on the right side scan.
